The life-changing impact of CGRP medication
How Yasmine got her life back
Yasmine has lived with migraine since she was a child, and it had a huge impact on her as she grew up.
Now in her thirties, it has seriously impacted her adult life too.
That has changed over the last few years, and she has been able to do so many of the things that migraine has prevented her from doing.
She has been able to live the life she always wanted to live.
CGRP treatment
That’s because her migraine has been treated with one of the new calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) preventive medications. These are the first drugs developed to treat migraine.
Their development has been life-changing for many people with migraine as prior to their creation people with migraine who needed preventive medication only had the options of drugs that were developed for other conditions. These repurposed drugs were often ineffective with negative side-effects.
Explaining the impact of CGRP treatment
As Yasmine explains: “Migraine is profoundly limiting in more ways than one. It’s a physical ordeal, certainly, but its far-reaching consequences in terms of preventing self-realisation and a semblance of a normal social life lead to mental suffering that’s equally torturous. Or at least it was in my experience.
“It’s hard for me to quantify the impact of CGRP monoclonal antibodies. It took a while to find the best version of the medication for me specifically, but now that I have, I can only say it’s been life-changing.
“This makes me hopeful for a better life for my own children, and for everyone else affected by this condition. And that’s what drove me to take part in this film, made by my brother, to show that there is light at the end of a tunnel I passed through for decades, as I’m sure many others did.”
