Celebrating March for Migraine 2023

A huge thank you to everyone who took part!

11th April 2023

March 2023 marked The Migraine Trust’s second ever March for Migraine challenge. This year, we asked our Marchers to walk, run, hop or skip 190,000 steps over the month in support of people with migraine.

190,000 steps represents the number of migraine attacks that happen in the UK each day. A migraine attack can involve severe head pain, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, visual disturbances and a range of other symptoms.

We were absolutely thrilled that so many people decided to sign up for March for Migraine. A total of 98 people donned their walking shoes both in the UK and further afield in the USA. In total, they raised a fantastic £9,087 which will go towards our work to support people with migraine, fund crucial new research and campaign for change for people with migraine.

Not only did our Marchers raise vital funds, they also helped to raise important awareness of migraine and the impact it can have on people’s lives.

The majority of our Marchers live with migraine themselves, many with chronic migraine, so we are particularly grateful to everyone who took on the walking challenge while managing migraine attacks or caring for a loved one with migraine.

"I've lived with migraine for almost sixty years and the most difficult thing for me is people who dismiss it 'as just a headache.' That is the least of my symptoms which have included, loss of sight or distorted vision; difficulty in forming words; nausea and vomiting. I am determined to help other people who are struggling to get the treatment they need."

Together, #TeamMigraine walked over 18.8 million steps, which is equivalent to about 8,200 miles. That’s just short of the distance from London to Papua New Guinea.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved and to everyone who donated too! We couldn’t do what we do without the generosity and commitment of people like you.

There’s still time to support our Marchers, and you can take a look at the official fundraising page here.

"In March 2022, I woke up one day and my whole life changed. My migraine became chronic and vestibular migraine began - everything was spinning, rocking, I was sick and nauseous constantly, tinnitus roared in my ears and I had exhaustion like I’d never felt before. I want to do anything I possibly can to raise awareness and funds in the hope that more help, support and medication / preventive options are available to migraine sufferers on the NHS."

“Migraine attacks are awful for anyone but especially children! My 9-year-old son started to get migraine attacks last year. They were so bad that he would be sick in class and just want to lay down and hold his head. As his mummy it was horrible to see him suffer and not be able to take them away. As soon as I discovered The Migraine Trust and March for Migraine I really wanted to take part and help the likes of Eden and other children who may suffer.”
