About the event

Join us as Dr Phil Holland and Mignon Van Der Watt cover the latest scientific research and developments in relation to migraine and migraine care.

Dr Holland is a translational neuroscientist who leads the preclinical headache group at King’s College London. His research is focused on developing a greater understanding of the mechanisms underlying primary headache disorders to aid in the discovery of novel therapies. His current research is focused on developing a greater understanding of why more women get migraine, the role of our body clocks in attack susceptibility and the non-pain symptoms of migraine.

He graduated from Glasgow University before undertaking his PhD at UCL. He then worked at the University of California San Francisco and Edinburgh University before starting his own research group at KCL in 2013. When not leading the headache group, he is an active educator, serves on the editorial board for leading scientific journals/congresses, is the president-elect the European Headache Federation and was acknowledged as a leader in pain research by the medical research foundation.

Mignon is a PhD student at King’s College London investigating the underlying biology of non-pain symptoms in migraine, with the aim of identifying novel treatment approaches. Her research places a strong emphasis on patient-engaged methods and the translation of neuroscience findings into meaningful outcomes for people living with migraine. She completed her undergraduate degree, Honours, and Master’s training in molecular biology and neuroscience at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Through her collaboration with The Migraine Trust, she is committed to ensuring that migraine research is informed by lived experience and aligned with patient priorities.
